World Expeditions' Fundraising Adventures

Parent company World Expeditions has a small range of Fundraising Adventures that include:

Adventure Travel Legend, Sorrel Wilby ~ ESCAPE ARTISTS
Bhutan | Rajasthan | Ladakh | Nepal

Escape Artists Tours is a new venture for World Expeditions – a partnership with everyone’s favourite travel guru, former 'Getaway', 'Australian Geographic' and 'Painting Australia' presenter, Sorrel Wilby.

In addition to her personal adventure travel and television presenting, Sorrel has made a name for herself as an accomplished travel writer, photographer and illustrator. The tours with Sorrel are designed for aspiring artists and crafty novices who want to explore their own creativity – sketching ‘en plein air’ in the Himalaya and experimenting with local traditional art and crafting techniques.

Opportunities to visit museums and galleries, workshops and studios, colourful festivals and local handicraft markets are all on the agenda and depending on the itinerary you chose, you’ll work with local artisans to produce your own paper, dye your own fabrics, design and make your own stamps – even paint your own elephant! And yes, we do mean that literally!

While local artisans will be engaged to teach their distinctive, traditional techniques, Sorrel’s role on this creative adventure is to nurture the artist within you; to encourage you to draw and experiment with new materials without fearing your work will be “judged”. She’ll encourage you to look deeply into the world; to discover it through each tiny detail. To create a bond with the places you are visiting, through the works of art you ultimately produce.

Each participant is asked to make a non-compulsory $AUD400.00 donation to the Australian Himalayan Foundation Art Award.

Everest Base Camp High Flyer with Cheryl Bart – Trek In / Fly Out
Departs: 25 October 2014

This trek is designed for trekkers with limited time to fulfil the dream of walking to the base of the world’s highest mountain. Our carefully devised itinerary with a number of rest days offers an exceptional way to acclimatise safely. On a trip of a lifetime we have learned never to rush a trek to altitude in the Himalaya and taking an extra few days makes all the difference to really being able to enjoy your trek. A slow ascent through wonderful Sherpa villages allows us time to enjoy the scenery, wildlife and visit a number of monasteries. Our trek culminates with a fine opportunity to trek to both Everest Base Camp and the nearby peak of Kala Pattar (5545m) for spectacular views of Mount Everest. We will use our unique private permanent campsites in the company of our Sherpa guides, whose exceptional experience, knowledge and passion for trekking in the Khumbu add a further dimension to this memorable trek. On our return journey we savour our Helicopter ride back to Kathmandu with views of the Himalayas.

World Expeditions are donating $AUD500 per participant to the Australian Himalayan Foundation and are encouraging participants to match it.

Free The Bears India with Alex Cearns
Departs: 11 October 2014

Our new FREE THE BEARS journey visits not only the Agra Bear Sanctuary but also travels south to the Bannerghatta Bear Rescue Centre. You have the opportunity to work at both sanctuaries and meet the very bears you are supporting. FREE THE BEARS CEO MATT HUNT will join you at Bannerghatta where the last Dancing Bear was removed from the streets of India and for the first time ever, acclaimed award winning animal photographer ALEX CEARNS will be joining the journey to help teach you how to get the most out of your animal photography. Few places in the world enthral travellers like India. This fantastic journey visits some of the real icons India is famous for as well as having a firm focus on the diverse array of wildlife found on the sub continent. You will dedicate part of your time on the journey in helping out at the Agra and Bangalore Bear sanctuaries. This journey starts in the hustle and bustle of India's capital, Delhi and then heads to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, also known as the 'Pink City'. From Jaipur our journey focuses on the animals of India, as we drive to the Ranthambhore National Park where we embark on game drives into the jungle. We spend two days at the park before driving to Agra, our base for the next 5-days. Here we visit the greatest monument to love, the stunning Taj Mahal, before spending four days at the AGRA Bear Rescue Facility getting "up close and personal" with the bears as we have a very exclusive opportunity to help out with the day to day running of the sanctuary.

An $AUD800 donation to The Free the Bears is included in the trip price.
